Job Description
Trevor Day School seeks a part-time Upper School Dance Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year. We are looking for an engaging and enthusiastic contemporary dance specialist to join our Performing Arts Department and teach foundational dance classes in the 9th and 10th grades. Ideal candidates will be adept at creating learning environments that nurture inquiry, inspire creativity, and support students as they explore movement and dance.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach multiple sections of Dance 1 for 9th graders and Dance 2 for 10th graders.
- Build skills and enthusiasm for dance in students.
- Develop curriculum in collaboration with the Performing Arts Department.
- Incorporate dance history and lineage into the curriculum, along with providing a diversity of perspectives on modern and contemporary dance.
- Collaborate with the Performing Arts Department to nurture student choreography and composition
- Stay aware of advances in dance instruction through participation in professional development.
- Participate in the life of the school by attending assemblies, student presentations, and performances.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required in dance or related area; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience teaching in a school or other educational setting; two or more years preferred.
- Knowledge of a variety of pedagogical approaches for teaching dance.
- Enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues.
- Proven ability to form strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- A growth mindset and passion for learning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility, creativity, patience, and a sense of humor.

The annual salary range for this 0.5 FTE position is $26,000-$51,000, as per the school's salary scale, plus benefits. When extending an offer for employment, Trevor Day School bases the salary upon several factors that include (but are not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education, training, key skills, and peer salary equity.
