Kind of Work Under supervision of the Public Information Officer, this position assists with various communication and clerical duties, including but not limited to answering incoming calls and emails, assisting in resolving citizens' questions and complaints, ordering supplies for the office, managing the PIO calendar, and supporting the PIO staff with monitoring and updating various communication channels (i.e. website, social media and media/community outlets), as needed.
Employee will be responsible for event coordination, including maintaining event request forms and requesting needed items for parish events (i.e. podium, flags, plants, chairs, tents, etc.); as well as maintaining AV request forms for Civic/Community group presentations and providing staffing and AV support (screen, projector, speakers, and microphones), if warranted. Employee will assist in managing certificate of merits and proclamation requests. Should be available to participate in meetings, draft agendas, and take notes/minutes, as needed.
This position will help monitor and keep records and reports of social media and media coverage. Shall meet deadlines requiring independent judgment, creative thinking, and analysis. Performs related work as required. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Meets one (1) of the following three (3) options:
I. Possession of an accredited Associate's degree (or successful completion of at least 60 college credit hours); plus, at least two (2) years of paid work experience performing varied duties under limited supervision in a clerical, administrative, customer service, or communications capacity, preferably in a public information office, PR agency, or related communications environment. (Note: Routine, standardized, and closely supervised experience will not be considered qualifying).
OR II. Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree; plus, at least six (6) months of paid work experience, as described in Option I.
OR III. Possession of an accredited Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
Kind of Examination (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.

Vacation (Annual Leave)
Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.
Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is
usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment.
Sick Leave
Employees accumulate one half day of paid sick leave for every two weeks worked.
Sick leave is available for personal illness, injury or medical consultations.
Holidays
Nine paid official holidays are observed, plus any holidays declared by Parish Officials.
Life Insurance
All regular employees receive a life insurance policy equal to one year's salary.
Extra insurance may be purchased.
Medical Insurance
An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.
A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.
Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.
Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.
Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.
Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
