The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Public Art Administrator.

The Broward County Cultural Division is a Division of Broward County Government and the official Local Arts Agency responsible for cultivating a rich cultural environment through development of the arts. The agency is dedicated to the growth and development of the County’s arts and cultural infrastructure through public art, community engagement programs, grants to artists and cultural organizations, and marketing initiatives. The Cultural Division enhances quality of life, economic vitality and plays a significant role in supporting the County’s arts and culture sector. The Cultural Division administers more than $7 million in grants annually and hosts IGNITE Broward, South Florida’s most innovative, large-scale immersive art and tech festival.

Broward County’s Public Art & Design (PAD) program is an award-winning program that will celebrate 50 years in 2026. The PAD section is one of the most visible and well-known sections within the Cultural Division. The County’s public art collection comprises more than 300 pieces of art with an appraised value of more than $30 million.

As a senior role within the Cultural Division team, the Public Art Administrator leads a team of project managers in the planning, organizing, and directing of complex, specialized PAD projects for Broward County. In addition to managing public art projects funded through the general capital budget, this position works with County Enterprise Agencies on the implementation and management of their public art programs, including Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL), and the Broward County Convention Center.

Additionally, this position will be responsible for developing new policy, processes, programs, and initiatives to include artist residencies within Broward County agencies, public art training programs, and more.

The successful candidate will:

The Public Art Administrator reports to the Director of the Cultural Division and works closely with the Public Art & Design Committee, the advisory committee to the PAD section.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Creates Public Art and Design Committee Agenda, communicates with Committee Chair to ensure successful decision making in accordance with County Ordinance and Administrative Code; creates Annual Budget.
• Assigns tasks associated with day-to-day management of administrative projects; advises on processes and procedures; reviews, advises and approves all aspects of project manager's work including progress reports, agreements, approvals and vendor payments.
• Monitors budget expenditures, directs activities of financial analyst and approves charge points and divisional charges.
• Manages the work of vendors/artists, draft agreements and amendments; approves payments to vendors, coordinates all project management activities and ensures there is communication and coordination with Construction Management Division and County Agencies.
• Directs public art collection management activities, record keeping and reporting; identifies and solves problems with projects or processes; meets with County agencies to determine project management needs.
• Reports public art activities to Division Director; attends Division meetings monthly and other Division meetings as needed; approves purchases and advises subordinate staff on purchasing procedures.
• Determines content of public art shell agreements with County Attorney; creates, reviews, edits and approves marketing plans and press releases; recruits, hires and trains staff.
• Drafts, edits, approves Board Agenda items; develops and implements new program initiatives including community workshops; makes presentations, answers questions and provide information to the community, other municipalities and the media.
• Keeps up to date with industry standards and activities through reading, attending conferences or making presentations at conferences and participating in professional association boards and committees.
• Determines content of Administrative Code as it pertains to public art; advises cities implementing public art programs.
• Performs related work as assigned.

General Description
Plans, organizes, and directs complex specialized Public Art and Design projects of the Cultural Division. Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in visual art, design art or architecture administration, or closely related field; Master's degree preferred.

Requires four (4) years in art or design management, including public art project management and administration, and experience in the supervisory aspects of the work or closely related experience.
