This role isn't just about following cases. It involves reporting on notable investigations, indictments and trials in San Antonio and other federal districts in Central and South Texas. It's about breaking stories and shedding light on major issues that resonate across Central and South Texas and beyond.
What You'll Do: You'll have an opportunity to break stories and generate enterprise stories about:
- Human trafficking
- Immigration
- Public corruption
- Other critical issues of public interest
The successful candidate will be a self-starter skilled at developing sources and discerning the broader trends within the routine business of the justice system. The federal courts in San Antonio are filled with compelling stories. We're looking for a reporter who will take advantage of that opportunity. You'll be expected to break exclusive stories and dig deep into enterprise reporting, turning the routine operations of the justice system into captivating narratives. This beat is filled with untold stories, and we want a reporter who's excited to tell them.
Why You're a Great Fit: - You're a self-starter who thrives on building sources and identifying trends that others might miss.
- You have at least 5 years of experience, including a background in courts and criminal justice reporting.
- You're savvy with digital journalism- SEO, story production, and social media promotion are second nature to you.
- You're committed to not just doing outstanding journalism but ensuring it reaches and engages readers.
- Bonus points if you speak Spanish, though it's not required.=
