JVS provides a broad range of services, including adult education, skills training, job readiness training, job placement and support, and access to post-secondary education. It assists employers in their search for well-qualified job applicants and their initiatives to upgrade the skills of their incumbent workforce.
Position Summary: The Refugee Services Career Coach is responsible for developing strong job leads and providing high-quality career counseling, training, and job placement assistance to refugee and immigrant job seekers in the greater Boston area. The Career Coach initiates and sustains collaborative working relationships with a variety of local businesses for participants’ employment and training opportunities. This individual must have a strong knowledge of issues related to individuals with significant barriers to employment, as well as experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
Program participants include a diverse group of individuals, such as refugees from Afghanistan, Haiti, Ukraine, and other countries who recently resettled in Massachusetts; immigrant parents who are receiving public benefits (TANF/TAFDC); and other individuals eligible for Massachusetts Refugee Resettlement Program employment services. Your ability to work with such a diverse group will be a valuable asset in this role.
Bilingual or additional language proficiency is highly preferred, especially in languages spoken by immigrant participants (i.e., Arabic, Dari, French, Haitian Creole, Pashto, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Somali, Swahili, and Ukrainian). Your language skills will be a key factor in effectively communicating with and supporting our diverse participant group.
