We are seeking a
California POST-certified investigator to conduct
comprehensive pre-employment background investigations for law enforcement candidates. The investigator will ensure full compliance with
California POST Commission Regulations 1953-1955 , as well as agency-specific policies, maintaining the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality, and legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed pre-employment background investigations for sworn and non-sworn law enforcement candidates.
- Interview applicants, references, employers, neighbors, and other relevant contacts to verify personal, professional, and criminal history.
- Collect, analyze, and assess records, including criminal history, credit reports, employment records, military service, and educational credentials .
- Ensure all investigations align with the California POST Background Investigation Manual and comply with EEO, ADA, FCRA, and agency policies .
- Prepare thorough, objective, and well-documented investigative reports summarizing findings.
- Provide hiring authorities with timely updates, insights, and recommendations.
- Handle sensitive information with strict confidentiality and ethical responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications:
- California POST Background Investigator Certificate (Required).
- 1-3 years of experience conducting law enforcement background investigations.
- In-depth knowledge of California laws, POST regulations, and investigative best practices .
- Strong interviewing, analytical, and report-writing skills .
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases simultaneously , and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior law enforcement experience (sworn or non-sworn investigator).
- Experience handling high-risk or complex background investigations .
- Bilingual proficiency (Spanish or other languages) is a plus.
Work Environment:
- Hybrid or on-site , based on agency policy.
- May require travel for in-person interviews and field investigations.
- Regular exposure to confidential and sensitive information .
