•Three years of experience in communications

•Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
Duties Description Under the general direction of the Deputy Executive Director for Public Information and Engagement, the Assistant Public Information Officer will primarily serve as the Records Access Officer for the NYS Gaming Commission and assist in day-to-day communication needs for the agency. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
•Review FOIL requests, gather requested records, and provide records to requestors in a timely manner.
•Coordinate with personnel in all Divisions, Offices and Bureaus within the Commission to obtain and review requested records
•Determine whether requested records may be released to the public and if necessary, making redactions and/or omissions from the records in accordance with FOIL.
•Provide support to the agency on all matters pertaining to the Personal Privacy Protection Law to ensure the safeguarding of confidential information.
•Organize and maintain records released through FOIL.
•Maintain a log of all FOIL requests, including the nature of the requests, along with the resulting responses and outcomes and required timeframe of each request.
•Coordinate legal reviews and appeals with the Commission's Office of General Counsel
•Receive, research, and respond to public inquiries, correspondence, and media inquiries.
•Draft press releases, website language, social media, reports, and other communications as directed.
•Provide administrative support and research for Communications and Executive staff and Commissioners.

Additional Comments NOTE ON TELECOMMUTING: Gaming Commission employees are required to apply and obtain approval through management to telecommute according to the Gaming Commission's Telecommuting Program Guidelines.
PROHIBITION AGAINST PLAYING AND WAGERING:
Commission employees and family members residing in their households are prohibited from purchasing Lottery tickets or claiming Lottery prizes. Commission employees are prohibited from wagering upon any horse racing, commercial gaming, video lottery gaming, Indian gaming, charitable gaming activities, interactive fantasy sports, and mobile sports wagering within the State. To avoid any appearance of impropriety of conflict of interest, Commission employees will be prohibited from all aspects of promoting, operating, and playing in any charitable gaming, which includes bingo and games of chance such as raffles, whether the organization conducting the game is required to be licensed by the Commission. The prohibition placed upon each Commission employee from assisting with any charitable gaming does not apply to the employee's family unless the employee thinks it presents a conflict of interest related to his or her job duties. Commission employees must also avoid any outside activities that could interfere or be perceived to interfere with their job duties.
